Laura’s boss appears to be a leader who takes the credits from the team, does not show care for them, does not grant financial rewards for outstanding performance and continuity, is not considerate regarding team morale. He only cares about himself and is not afraid that mistreating his team may cause him losing what he has been given.

Laura did decrease her effort supply between the beginning and the end. At the very beginning, she aimed at having a career in making impacts. Although she is staying with her company for 9 years, she realized eventually what she is doing is just a job rather than her career goal.

According to her narrative at the end, it is obvious that her boss does not deserve her best efforts anymore. While getting her work done properly, she does not spend extra efforts that she used to do since the company and my boss do not appreciate those by rewarding her in any way. This let her lead to the conclusion of not deserving of her efforts.

The norm of reciprocity requires that one repay in kind what another has done for the former. I expect that her total utility to decrease if she continues to act with her best because she has not been repaid for what she has contributed to in recent years at all. It would not be surprising that she only completes what she is supposed to do.

1. Her boss is a leader who will bring all honor and success to himself, and when team meets frustration he blames other team members for the responsibility. Her boss could not considerate other team members’ contribution.

2. Laura decreases her effort supply between the beginning and end of the narrative. when Laura came to this company at the beginning, she makes a lot of efforts for her work and made a big contribution to her company with her boss. however, after the unhappy experience with her boss later, she is very upset.

3. No, Laura believes that her boss did not deserve her “best” efforts. Because it is very selfish to make all success for one person, she also made a lot of efforts to the work. if the efforts could be recognized, the employee will be very frustrated and could not work hard as before.

4. I think Laura total “utility” has been decreased. Because based on her ability and experience, she can get a promotion and make more effort to the company. Right now she could not get her return based on her pay, and still, make the same position in the company.
