Create a digital space where you use one literary theory to analyze one of the short stories we will read in class.

Your assignment is to create a digital space (online video, blog, website, etc)where you use one literary theory to analyze one of the short stories we will read in class. Your digital space will be your public space to share your analysis. You are asked to be creative not with just your words but also with forms of digital media. This includes image, video and sound. The goal of this project is to open up the possibilities of writing by using multimedia and multimodal projects.

Your project will contain elements like digital media files (videos, music, animation) that would not be possible in a non-digital (traditional essay) format. Your digital space should make connections about specific theories, the author and the literary work. The digital space must include research (scholarly articles) concerning your topic. Your digital space will be 1,200-1,400words maximum and must have at leastsources(not including the primary source) and a works cited section. At least 3 of your sources must come from library databases.

For example, you could focus on the theory of Feminism and the short story “A Rose for Emily.”Your focus could be to look at how Faulkner’s short story illustrates how women are oppressed by society’s attitudes concerning marriage.

Possible Topics:

Like traditional research projects, you must have a thesis statement in your blog as well as support for your blog’s argument. Here is an example of a thesis statement.

William Faulkner’s “A Rose for Emily”shows how society responds to women who remain single.

You will use support including summaries, quotes and paraphrases from primary (the literary work) and secondary sources (articles about the literary work or author) to support your position. This includes web-based sources such as databases. Use direct quotes, summaries and paraphrases from primary sources and secondary sources. In addition, your digital space will include internal citations (in-text and parenthetical) according to the following standards:

Credit is given each time that the information is used, even if it is paraphrased or summarized.

Each source listed in your works cited section is cited(paraphrased, direct quoted or summarized) at least once within your blog.

The majority of your sources come from credible sources, such as books, scholarly journals, and periodicals. Your non-print sources come from the online databases that the library subscribes to.

Use the Modern Language Association method of internal citation (parenthetical and in-text).The Works Cited section should list at least 6 sources, not including the literary work.

A Few Things about Your Works Cited section:

Entries are alphabetized according to the author’s last name or title (if there is no author).

Entries are not numbered. No Footnotes!!!

More on Works Cited Pages can be found at Purdue Online Writing Center. The final submission should include the following:

• Text of no more than 1,200-1,400 words. If you choose to create a video, your script has to have between 1,200-1,400 words.

• Works Cited section (Note- Final word count does not include works cited page)

• Pictures, videos ,as well as links to other related online sources
