Mental Illness

Mental illness is a disease, not an excuse. An illness that placed law enforcement officers in an awkward position to enforce the law. Because of the restraint of scarce mental health services, the expansion in Georgia’s mental health cases on law enforcement officers makes it more challenging to enforce the law for criminal violations by mentally ill people. What training does Georgia have in place for law enforcement officers when dealing with mentally ill offenders? What law would you put in place to help officers deal with mental health offenders? How could law enforcement officers prepare themselves for such cases?
