Also, this week we begin work on the Research Paper process. The final draft of the Research Paper will be due in Week 9, and I encourage you to look ahead to that assignment and read over the expectations now so that you can begin with the end in mind.
This week, the first step in the process will be to select a topic and collect your research sources. You will present those sources to me in the form of an Annotated Bibliography. I will then review that assignment and give you feedback on your research to help you as you complete your Research Paper. Having all of the research sources organized up front will make it much easier for you to write the paper.
Here’s what to expect on the Annotated Bibliography assignment:
The Annotated Bibliography is the first step in your literary research paper. In order to complete the research paper, you must be sure that you can find an adequate number of scholarly sources to support your claims.
In this assignment, you will present your research sources along with annotations to explain their relevance to your project.
The topic and thesis of your project should be listed at the top of the assignment. You can choose from any of the selections in the Topics for Long Papers category presented in your text on pages 1138-1142. You can choose Short Story, Poetry, or Drama to work with but be sure that you select a topic from the proper category: Topics for Long Papers. List your topic clearly at the top of your assignment. Note: You must choose one of these topics. I have posted copies of the topic questions in the questions forum in case you have a different edition and are having trouble finding the pages. Please look over them early and let me know if you have any questions.
Once you have chosen a topic, find at least six scholarly sources that you plan to use as evidence to support your research. Primary sources (the literary texts themselves) should also be listed in your final works cited page and may be listed here, but they do not count toward your total of six critical sources. You need six secondary sources to help you analyze the literary texts that you plan to work with in the assignment.

Utilize these resources along with the Troy Library (Links to an external site.) to complete your annotated bibliography. This is a critical step in preparing your final research paper. The Annotated Bibliography is Due on Sunday, 9/27 by the end of the day.
Final paper
This paper will be based on the research resources you compiled for your bibliography in week 7.
Your paper should have a clear claim about the literature you have read this term.
You can choose from any of the selections in the Topics for Long Papers category presented in your text on pages 1195-1200.
Review Chapter 30 of your textbook carefully for advice on writing a literary research paper.

Your final draft should be approximately 5-7 pages. You must use the topic you selected for your annotated bibliography, but you may substitute and/or expand your sources based on the feedback you received on that assignment.
You must use MLA format and include a works cited page.
Please attach your final draft as a Word compatible file.
