DISCUSSION Questions (MAKE SURE TO RESPOND TO BOTH Questions #1 and #2)

#1. {Reflect & Share}: (Answer A or B)

A. How do you communicate to someone that you don’t want the relationship to progress beyond the “experimenting” stage? How do we handle this in a more communicatively competent way?

OR

B.Think about a relationship you have had (or have observed) that stayed in the “exploration” or “intensification” stage. What prevented the relationship (in terms of communication behaviors you experienced or observed) from escalating to the next stage? What could have facilitated it moving on?

#2. Share your opinion:

a. To what extent is it possible to develop a relationship purely online and go through most of Knapp’s stages? At what stage(s) would it be necessary to have face-to-face interaction in order for the relationship to continue?
