The purpose of the Pro-Con Analysis paper is for students to have the opportunity to present a balanced argument where you discuss both sides of an issue before revealing your own position. Giving pros and cons about an issue allows the reader to formulate their own opinions before hearing your final analysis. A good paper gives fair and equal treatment to both sides of an issue, describes advantages and disadvantages, provides specific research to support the ideas and provides a summary, which includes the writers view on the topic.
A minimum of five (5) empirical articles for Pro arguments and five (5) articles for Con
arguments should be included in each paper. Students are required to incorporate at least two current commentaries (one pro and one con) from a nationally recognized newspaper (e.g. NY Times, Washington Post etc.).
