After watching and listening to each of the MIA lecture pick a subject that relates to the topic of your choice. You may also pick more than one subjects that allow you to make a comparisons- for example A Comparison of the Human Body by Egyptian and Greek Artists
1. Start by identifying your subject with the traditional Who, What, When, Where and Why.
2. Having established identity, describe with words what it is you are looking at for someone who is blind or has never seen it. If you can, attach a digital file of the image to your paper. Use words to describe not only the elements of art but also that of its design. Freely mine information from art books or internet sources and try to put these into your own words.
3. Talk about the artist in context of the society that created him/her. Why did the artist create this piece? Who paid for the art? Does the piece contain themes that run throughout history?
4. Finally, what are your reactions to the work? Why do you like or dislike it. Bring the piece home to us today. How does the art piece speak to us in the 21st Century?
