Your responses should describe the purpose and intention of the work; its format and genre (pamphlet, novel, sermon, &c.); and attempt to assess its historical significance. Your responses may include personal reactions to the material; comparisons to previous readings; links with material you have encountered in other courses; speculations and hypotheses about the broader context. Do not simply summarize the material. Engage with it; use your imaginations. Quote interesting or salient passages. If you do not understand certain passages, elaborate on what you are not getting and try to pinpoint the source of confusion
