session 1 paper

Review two (2) classical theories and two (2) contemporary theories on motivation (these can be found in your reading assignments this week) and write a paper covering one of the following options:

Motivation-Hygiene Theory:

  • Briefly describe Herzberg’s Motivation Hygiene Theory.
  • How would this theory be used in management processes to increase productivity?
  • How have you seen this theory at work in your workplace? Give specific examples.
  • What does the Bible support as motivational factors for Christians? Give specific scripture references to support your answer.

Theory X and Theory Y:

  • Briefly describe each of the theories.
  • How have you seen these theories at work in your workplace? Give specific examples of each theory.
  • How would this theory reflect a management versus leadership style?
  • Does the Bible support one theory more than the other? Why or why not? Give specific scripture references to support your answer.

Expectancy Theory:

  • Briefly describe the theory.
  • How have you seen this theory at work in your workplace? Give specific examples.
  • How does the Bible support or contrast this idea with the expectation of employees and the belief that the amount of work they expend will depend upon the reward or gain they will receive?

Goal Theory:

  • Briefly describe the theory.
  • How have you seen this theory at work in your workplace? Give specific examples.
  • Do you agree or disagree with the premise of goal theory that individuals who are provided with specific goals work harder and perform better than those who are given general goals? Why?
  • Does this theory reflect more of a management or a leadership style? How?
Please write this as an essay. Do not simply copy the questions and provide a response. This paper should be two to three pages in length. Your page count does not include cover page, reference page, or appendix pages. Write your paper in Microsoft Word and format it according to APA standards.
Click on the Session 1 Paper link and submit your assignment as a Word document by the posted due date. Review the rubric available in Due Dates and Grades for specific grading criteria.
