One of the many benefits of studying modern/contemporary is the proliferation of artists who previously toiled in the margins. Historically, artmaking has been much closely associated with cis white male artists than women artists, BIPOC artists, or queer artists, like Seattle-based artists Barbara Earl Thomas, Gala Bent, (Links to an external site.) and (Links to an external site.)Clyde Petersen (Links to an external site.). Fortunately, many art institutions are working to change this.

Respond in a 250-300 word paragraph. The writing diaries will be graded on the length and quality of your response, rather than composition.
