Choose a topic from the course and related to child maltreatment. Potential topics could relate to specific types of abuse (physical, emotional, neglect, sexual), foster care, trauma informed nursing care, COVID-19 related issues, use of risk stratification/predictor tools such as ACES, the effect of trauma on brain development, assessing for or responding to suspected child maltreatment, global issues in child maltreatment, nursing roles, etc. This is not an all-encompassing list, but just some ideas for you to consider.
Once you have chosen your topic you will write a 3-4-page essay reviewing the following content areas:
- Clearly define/describe your topic/problem and why it is an issue related to child maltreatment
- Review the ANA code of ethics, choose one, and explore how this ethical principle may impact the issue. You may want to review your Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (Links to an external site.) for more detail on application of your selected code of ethics.
- Identify one ethical conflict related to the ethical principle selected and the issue.
- Identify one legal aspect of this issue and how it may affect /support the ethical principle.
- Summarize how you would use the ethical principle and legal aspect to address your chosen topic in your nursing practice.
- Essay must follow APA 7th ed. guidelines. Title and reference page is not included in page length requirement. At least 3 scholarly references are required.
